Modernized Pro Style Offense

"Inspired by, but not a replica of, the Kyle Shanahan (HC) / San Francisco 49ers offense."

+ Balanced mix of Under Center to Shotgun+ Introduces some Pistol

+ Early downs consist of a lot of under center (11&12) wide zone runs & quick game + Personnel gets heavier as the yardage gets shorter, (12, 21, & 22), introducing more PA + Operates with a good % of jet, fly, & orbit motions in both the run & passing attack + HB motions in & out of the backfield at a high rate, to play as a WR in space against LBs

+ Wide Zone Running Scheme, attacking the edges while under center + Mid Zone attack out of the Gun, with majority of Outside Zone coming from RPO keeps

+ Close, Condensed & Bunched Spacings throughout it's entirety

+ Mixes in Split Back looks (Pro) out of the Gun, also motions WRs into Split looks

+ Uses the FB in a lot of non-I formations like Bunch Base (stock) & U OFF sets (formation subs)

+ Often uses the FB or TE as motion blockers, but also as leakers on PA + High utilization of 3TE sets (13p) in RZ Fringe area, opens up big chunk plays off PA

+ Heavy motion focus in the Red Zone area + Highly efficient Goal Line gameplan

+ Empty & Spread looks for a ready-to-roll 2 Minute Offense

+ Designed runs for PWHB (HB2) in Chew Clock situations, lessens the load on HB1 naturally

Notes :

  • QB : Overall, I prefer Pocket Passers the most, especially for their abilities. The fact they're more athletic this year, and play more in line with the other & more mobile archetypes is a huge plus. And I hate the nerf to Backfield Creators this year (RIP Sleight of Hand), but out of all the playbooks I will be making, this is one of the few where they can be featured. On Time, Magician, & Mobile Deadeye will certainly help in the short & quick West Coast scheme, without any real need for the big arm and downfield abilities like Dot & Step Up. The one true weakness is the lack of Sleight of Hand, but out of all the PA based playbooks I intend on making, this one can live without it more than a few of the others would be able to. The big thing for SIM, will be the hidden DNA traits that we can't see, they can make/break even a stud QB. But that's simply RNG, so never be afraid of QB competitions in SIM scenarios.

  • HB : The big picture here is a Backfield Threat on steroids, just without being stuck as a Backfield Threat. Hands are pretty low cost to upgrade, so I like to make that a top priority for E/W Playmakers & Elusive Bruisers. We want the superior abilities of those archetypes with the pass catching attributes of the Backfield Threat. North/South Receivers are a good backup plan (HB2), but I often find them to be good candidates for FB instead, and just focus on the other two with development.

  • FB : This scheme utilizes both a FB & motion-blocking TEs, but it features them differently. The ideal overarching archetype is that of a "Utility" player, but not necessarily the archetype. Less about the archetype name, and more about the skillset, a blocking archetype with really good hands might even be ideal, due to access of blocking abilities. But I would focus recruiting towards undersized TEs and North/South running back types, before switching their position. If moving a Blocking TE to FB, upgrade their Hands first, as that category often becomes capped or nearly capped upon becoming a Blocking FB. Rather than a TE playing OOP at FB, this scheme utilizes more FB playing OOP at TE (formation sub for all U Off sets), so they need to be a threat in all aspects and not just a brute.

  • WR : Normally WR1 is the X, and the #1 WR on your team, but in this scheme I use WR1 as the Deep Threat. Either to take the top off with Speed, or get physical with 50/50 balls. With that said, making WR2 your actual #1 WR, playing more inside and slot type roles with priority targets. The Wildcard here is WR3, who can either be a shiftier Route Artist capable of running crisp routes on the outside, or a Gritty Possession guy to boost run blocking on the perimeter (as he slides to WR2 in 3WR sets).

  • TE : Possession archetypes are ideal here, because of run blocking ability combined with CIT ability. But Pure Possession representation is nonexistent this year, their combo of size & athleticism, paired with Sure Hands & Outside Shield makes them my absolute favorite, albeit rare. But, for this scheme, I actually have them listed behind Vertical Threat, because there are a handful of designed TE screens, so they need to be athletic, but also good run blockers. Vertical Threats can upgrade blocking, unlike Physical Route Runners, who would normally be a great fit here due to their athleticism & RAC ability with Downhill. Gritty Possession is always my go-to depth & sleeper build, as any time you can get favorable skill caps or dev traits, they can become absolute monsters (same goes for WR too)

  • OL : Primarily looking for Pass Blocking on the blindside, Power on the interior, and Athleticism on the opposite side. Normally with Wide Zone you would think Agile OL because of their athleticsm to get out on their blocks, their RBF rating and Outside Shield ability. But here I wanted to use different archetypes, with access to different abilities, and kind of weave them together as a singular unit. The interior uses their Inside Shield on Duo & Mid Zones, climbing to the LBs with Second Level, and wearing down the DL to fatigue them faster (which also benefits the passing game). The LT protects the blindside, and the RT pairs his athleticism & Quick Step to get out on screen plays, and Quick Drop to boost his PB effectiveness. On Wide Zone & Stretch Plays, the interior uses their strength & Strong Grip to prevent block sheds, as the RT & TEs team up with their Outside Shield abilities to seal the edges.

This Offensive Line construction is something I've been working on, and testing with TeamBuilder teams, because I'm able to swap Archetypes & Assign Abilities, and as pipe dream as it may sound, the results speak for themselves. I've had far more success mix & matching archetypes, pairing different abilities together in tandem, to cover as many bases as possible, and they've outperformed homogenous OL builds. Whether it be all Raw Strength for a downhill run game, or all Agile for a wide zone run game, the unit woven together like a quilt performs better like 8/10 times. (Especially since the pancakes nerf patch).
