MONSOON
Search Keyword : MONSOON
- Primarily a Nickel & Dime defense, built on a 3-4 foundation. - It's a Split-Field, Zone-Match, 2-High 4-Under scheme, built around pre-snap disguise and post-snap versatility. Took a lot of inspiration from Mike MacDonald and the Super Bowl Champions ; Seattle Seahawks. - Expect a lot of Cover 3 variants (Cloud, Buzz Match), Tampa 2, Cover 6, & Robber to name a few. - Along with concepts like : Sim Pressures, Fire Zones, Inverted Coverages, Rolled Coverages, & "Show 2" disguises. - An Elite Front 4 that can get after the quarterback, creating pressure on their own, is an extreme privilege. As are, rangey & competent backers on the second level, who can hold their own in every aspect. But where this defense truly shines is in the secondary, and the name of the game is physicality. - Tackling is an essential skill in the defense for the DBs, as it plays heavily into Nickel, Big Nickel, & Big Dime personnel groupings, leaving them to often times fend for themselves in open space. Wrapping up those 1-on-1 tackles is crucial to slowing momentum and gettin those turnover on downs. - That's why I prefer Boundary corners the most, when it comes to the perimeter, because unlike Bump & Run corners, they can actually tackle. - Even if they don't look like they'll develop into good enough CBs for the scheme, their high tackle rating makes them prime real estate for changing positions to become a Hybrid safety archetype. - Which leads us to the single most important player on the defense, and the one that the scheme heavily revolves around, and that is the SS1. He needs to be super versatile, as he plays up top in the 2-High in Nickel, down in the slot in Over Flex, and even kicks inside to play linebacker in the 2-3-6. Which makes him one of the most fun players to try and develop in long term dynasties, through recruiting, position changes, & manual progression.
